KMEW and Japan Facades: Japanese technology with local support in Spain

KMEW Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer specializing in building envelope materials. The company was established in 2003 through the integration of the exterior materials businesses of Kubota Corporation and Matsushita Electric Works, now Panasonic Corporation.

For the European market, KMEW offers fiber-cement panel systems for ventilated facades, including the Filltect and Ceradir V series, developed to combine architectural design, weather resistance, and low maintenance.

Japan Facades has been working with KMEW solutions in Europe since 2008. Japan Facades Europe, S.L.U. serves as the KMEW distributor for Europe, while Japan Facades Iberica, S.L.U. handles sales, technical consulting, and supply for projects in Spain.

Are KMEW panels designed to have a long service life?

Yes. KMEW panels are exterior cladding products designed for use in exposed outdoor environments. Their long-term performance depends on the product series, the coating, proper facade design, installation in accordance with the manual, and the environmental conditions of the project. For specific details, please refer to the technical data sheets and warranties applicable to each product.

On what types of buildings can they be installed?

KMEW panels are installed as part of a ventilated facade system on a substructure sized for the project. The substructure can be designed for various types of support—for example, concrete, masonry, metal framing, or wood framing—provided that the solution has been defined and technically verified. The panels must not be fastened directly to the support without the substructure provided for by the system.

How are the joints between panels handled?

The panels feature an interlocking design and are combined with system-specific profiles and accessories. This allows for the alignment of joints, reduces their visual impact, and maintains the facade’s drainage and ventilation. The exact details depend on the series, the installation orientation, and the project design.

What does it mean for the panels to be self-cleaning?

In Filltect products, the photocatalytic ceramic coating helps break down adhered dirt through the action of light and makes it easier for rain to wash it away. Ceradir V uses a hydrophilic coating that allows water to spread beneath the dirt, facilitating its removal. These technologies reduce dirt buildup and maintenance requirements, although they do not eliminate the need for all cleaning operations in every environment.
